  1. I think that the people in charge at Disney need to stop and think about the decisions that they are making. If you listen to the social media sites guests are not happy with the all of these changes. The price increases, the limited FP+, the loss of discounts, the devaluing of maintaince and appearances around the are having a negative effect on the bran name. I know that the company has other avenues that they value but if Disney becomes just another amusement park why do I need to bother going to Disney. I pass several parks on my way to Disney. I can stop at one of the for less money. Someone needs to tell this to the management at the parks and to the folks in the ivory towers.

  2. Fun podcast – some great discussion. Thanks for taking the time to run through the ins and outs of the APs.

I wanted to comment on the portion in which you talked about whether AP holders are the “bread and butter.” You referred several times to how much AP holders spend compared to the once-per-year attendees.

But the unit of comparison should not be the person. The unit of comparison should be the turn of the turnstile. In other words, yes, an AP holder spends more in a year than a once-per-year attendee… BUT an AP holder likely spends less per attendance day than a once-per-year attendee, and THAT’s what Disney cares about. Each time the turnstile turns the capacity in the park goes up, which equates to cost for Disney… but the AP holder doesn’t spend as much PER ENTRY as others so Disney is paying more to support the AP holder than others.

It was mentioned on the podcast – sometimes AP holders go in for a couple hours, ride a ride or two, and go home. Think about that couple at Disneyland that went every day for a year. They were out of work — they calculated their cost per day was less than $2.

From my personal experience: The only year my family ever had an AP we spent less per day than other years because we were traveling from GA and had to keep our costs down in order to go many times to get the value out of our AP.

In other words – I’m not surprised if AP holders are not DW’s bread and butter.

  3. I have the premium pass for my whole family as we are going to visit dland 5 times and dworld once for 2 weeks. I was not aware of this change at all. after spending$3400 dollars the selling point was the discounts. Im not very happy with this.
