As a Valet I want you to know there are different pay rates at different places. I work in Nashville TN and out rate for restaurants is $2.13 an hour plus tips, Places where you will not make much tips is $8.00 an hour plus tip.
As for hotels its $8.00 plus tips. The problem is many guests ONLY tip when leaving the last day which means the valet gets NOTHING only the person on the last day. Please tip each time they get your car.
As for $80 in New York I guess that is the rate since Atlanta was $30 a night I still tipped $5 each time.
When in doubt just ask. Yes $80 sounds high, but valets are there because parking is so hard to find, we are there to help your trip or meal be a beeter experience.
Here a going rate $2 okay, $3 average, $5 good. $10 for nice places. Its okay tip in advance we will try to keep you up close and NEVER Stiff a Valet or Waiter its how we make a living. Would you tell your boss to pay you less or nothing since you did your job? Notice $1 was not mention that’s what you give someone that does not perform a service, its called begging.
I love your show and the rants.
