Disney & Family Travel FAQ
When is the best time to visit Walt Disney World?
The lowest crowds at Walt Disney World are typically mid-January to early February, late August through mid-September, and early to mid-December (before the holiday rush). For the best weather plus moderate crowds, target late October through early November or late April through early May. Peak crowd times to avoid are Christmas/New Year, Easter week, Spring Break, and Thanksgiving week.
How far in advance should I book a Disney vacation?
Book Walt Disney World resort hotels and tickets 6-12 months in advance for the best room availability and to lock in current pricing before annual increases. Disney Cruise Line books even further out — 12-18 months ahead for the best cabin selection on new ships like the Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny. For dining, you can reserve up to 60 days in advance as a Disney resort guest.
Is a Disney Cruise worth it for families?
For families with kids ages 3-12, Disney Cruise Line typically delivers the highest satisfaction of any cruise line — kid-friendly programming, character experiences, rotational dining, and the new private island Lookout Cay. The premium pricing reflects that. If your kids are older or you want adult-focused luxury, Virgin Voyages or Royal Caribbean’s newest ships often offer better value. Mouse Chat has full reviews of every Disney ship, including the Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny.
What’s the difference between Sandals and Beaches Resorts?
Sandals Resorts are couples-only adult all-inclusive properties (no kids allowed), perfect for honeymoons and romantic getaways. Beaches Resorts are family-friendly all-inclusive properties from the same company — you get the same luxurious amenities plus Sesame Street character experiences, water parks, and supervised kids’ clubs. Both include all meals, drinks, watersports, and tips. Mouse Chat covers both extensively, including the new Beaches Treasure Beach village.
Are travel agents free for booking Disney vacations?
Yes — Pixie Vacations, the travel agency hosted by Mouse Chat’s Steve and Lisa Griswold, books Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Universal Orlando, Sandals, Beaches, Royal Caribbean, Virgin Voyages, and other family travel at no extra cost to you. The travel supplier pays the agent’s commission directly, so the price you pay is the same as booking yourself — but you get expert planning help, room category guidance, and ongoing support if anything changes with your trip.
