This week on Mouse Chat, we’re pulling back the curtain on how this whole thing started. After more than 15 years of weekly episodes, thousands of Disney trips, and a worldwide community of Mouse Chatters, we sat down to talk about why we fell in love with Disney in the first place — and how that love turned into the family travel podcast you’re listening to right now. If you’re a Disney fan, a longtime listener, or someone who’s just discovering us, this is the origin story episode.

What We Cover This Week

We open the show with each host sharing their first Disney memory — the trip, the moment, the ride, the smell of popcorn on Main Street, U.S.A. that made Walt Disney World feel like home. Lisa, Steve, Sharpie, Caitlyn, and Debbie all have very different “first Disney” stories, and hearing them back to back is a fun reminder that there isn’t one right way to fall for the parks. Some of us grew up on Disneyland, some discovered Disney as adults, and one of us (you’ll have to listen to find out who) actually got engaged in front of Cinderella Castle.

From there, we talk about how Mouse Chat started 15+ years ago — back when podcasting was still mostly a hobby, the iPhone was brand new, and trip reports lived on message boards. We share what made us hit “record” that first time, how the original cast came together, and the long list of guests, listeners, and Disney cast members who’ve shaped the show over the years. We also share some of the stories we’ve never told on the show before — the recording bloopers, the Disney trips that went sideways, and the moments that reminded us why we keep doing this every week.

Then we get into how Disney travel has changed since we started — Genie+ becoming Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Disney Cruise Line going from four ships to eight, the rise of Disney’s Star Wars and Avatar lands, Galaxy’s Edge, EPCOT’s transformation, and the upcoming Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny cruises sailing the Caribbean in 2026. We also talk about what hasn’t changed: the way a Disney vacation still pulls a family closer, the magic of a perfect dining reservation, and that feeling when the monorail rolls into the Magic Kingdom station.

Finally, we talk about where Mouse Chat goes from here. Universal’s Epic Universe is reshaping Orlando, Disney Cruise Line is launching new ships and itineraries, and our community keeps growing. We share what’s coming next on the show — including more Disney Cruise reviews, Caribbean and Sandals/Beaches coverage, and family travel tips from the Mouse Chat team — and we say a sincere thank you to every listener who’s been with us along the way. If you’ve ever emailed us a question, left a review, or booked a Disney trip with our travel team, this episode is for you.
